Introduction

The objective behind the original Honda CR-V was to create a Comfortable Runabout Vehicle (hence CRV). Today, the CR-V is sold in 160 countries around the world, and CR-Vs built for U.S. drivers are assembled in East Liberty, Ohio.

The Honda CR-V was completely redesigned for the 2012 model year. Honda has not announced changes for 2013, but they are likely to be minimal. That means the CR-V remains a compact crossover SUV with seating for 5 passengers.

Exterior Features

Honda sells the CR-V in LX, EX and EX-L trim levels. Folding power side mirrors with expanded view glass on the driver's side are standard. By upgrading to EX trim, buyers swap out the standard 16-inch painted steel wheels for a set of 17-inch aluminum wheels. The CR-V EX also gains fog lights, dark tinted rear privacy glass, and body-color exterior trim.

Interior Features

Every Honda CR-V is equipped with air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, and a 160-watt sound system with a CD/MP3 player, auxiliary audio input jack, and a USB port. Additional standard equipment includes a manual driver's seat height adjuster, Easy Fold 60/40-split folding rear seat, floor mats, trip computer, compass, and an outside temperature indicator. The driver can customize the CR-V's information display settings; the sunglasses holder includes a conversation mirror that helps parents keep an eye on the kids in the back seat; the headlights have an auto-off feature; and there's a cargo light in the trunk.

Optional Features

The 2013 CR-V EX is equipped with a better sound system, power sunroof, variable intermittent wipers, illuminated visor vanity mirrors, front seatback pockets, and a retractable cargo cover.

Upgrade to the CR-V EX-L for leather seats, 10-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, automatic dual-zone climate control, and heated side mirrors. This version also includes a premium sound system, satellite radio, roof rails, and automatic headlights. Options for the EX-L include a choice between a navigation system with real-time traffic and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

Under the Hood

The CR-V's 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Honda's Real Time all-wheel-drive system is optional.

To improve fuel economy, Eco Assist technology encourages more efficient driving and an Econ Mode recalibrates drivetrain response to conserve gas. The CR-V is rated by the EPA to get 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, and 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway with AWD.

Safety

Honda uses Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body construction for the CR-V, which is designed to make the CR-V crash-compatible with a greater variety of vehicles, and to deflect crash energy away from the cabin if a collision does occur.

In addition to ACE, the CR-V is equipped with 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction and stability control, whiplash-reducing front seat design, and a multi-view reversing camera.

Technology

Every 2013 Honda CR-V is equipped with standard Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and music streaming, SMS text messaging capability that reads messages over the stereo speakers, Pandora Internet radio, and iPhone compatibility.
