Buick enters 1998 with a total of four vehicles (LeSabre, Century, Regal and Park Avenue) that are freshly updated during the 1997 model year. A Buick vehicle that underwent only modest changes in 1997, the Riviera luxury coupe is consolidated for 1998. All 1998 model year Buick Riviera two-door coupes will be powered by the 240-horsepower, supercharged Series II V-6 engine. After offering a rare six-passenger coupe for several years, the bench seating option has now been dropped from the 1998 Buick Riviera. Dealer-installed OnStar in-car communications system can be equipped on the 1998 Buick Park Avenue. Several Buick models receive new airbags that work with reduced inflation power in case of an accident. Sales of the Buick Skylark sedan will be limited to fleet customers for 1998.
