Top-Rated Convertibles in the 2015 Quality Award

An automotive industry benchmark in terms of measuring customer satisfaction, the annual J.D. Power Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) surveys thousands of consumers who have owned their new vehicle for at least 90 days. From this research, J.D. Power calculates Power Circle Ratings (PCRs) that reflect the reported quality of each new car, truck, SUV, and van model. Based on those PCRs, the models included in this guide, listed in alphabetical order, are the highest-rated convertibles in initial quality on sale for the 2015 model year.

2015 BMW 2 Series

New for 2015, the BMW 2 Series Convertible seats four people. Equipped with a power-operated soft top, this version of the 2 Series is available in 228i and more powerful M235i model series, and the 228i is available with an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

In the 2015 IQS, the BMW 2 Series is the highest-ranked model in the Small Premium Car segment.

2015 BMW 4 Series

Larger than the 2 Series Convertible, the BMW 4 Series Convertible employs a power-retractable hardtop that stacks into the trunk when the car is driven with the roof down. For 2015, a new, performance-tuned M4 model joins the 428i and 435i, a replacement for the previous BMW M3 Convertible that the automaker claims is lighter, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient than its predecessor.

In the 2015 IQS, the BMW 4 Series is the highest-ranked model in the Compact Premium Car segment.

2015 BMW 6 Series

Serving as BMW's flagship convertible, the 6 Series receives minor changes to standard and optional equipment for 2015. The 640i and 650i models are available with rear-wheel drive or AWD, and buyers seeking maximum performance will want to consider the M6 Convertible.

2015 Jaguar F-Type

A 2-seat roadster, the Jaguar F-Type Convertible is available with a supercharged V-6 engine making either 340 horsepower or 380 horsepower, or with a supercharged V-8 capable of generating 495 horsepower. A new 2-door coupe model joins the F-Type lineup for 2015.

In the 2015 IQS, the Jaguar F-Type ranks third in the Midsize Premium Sporty Car segment.

2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Mazda wraps up production of the third-generation MX-5 Miata with a special-edition variant. It joins a lineup that includes Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels, the latter two offered with a choice between a soft top or a power-retractable hardtop that adds security without reducing trunk space, according to Mazda. This 2-seat roadster, in near continuous production for 25 years, is redesigned for 2016.

In the 2015 IQS, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is the highest-ranked model in the Compact Sporty Car segment.

2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

A 4-passenger convertible equipped with a soft convertible top, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is available in new E400 and continuing E550 model series. Both are equipped with twin-turbocharged engines, the E400 featuring a 3.0-liter V-6 and the E550 powered by a 4.7-liter V-8 engine. Aside from the debut of the new E400 model, no changes are made for 2015.

2015 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

Long serving as the range-topping Mercedes convertible, the SL-Class roadster seats two people and is offered in a new SL400 variant equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V-6 engine. The SL400 joins a lineup that also includes the SL550, SL63 AMG, and SL65 AMG.

In the 2015 IQS, the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class ranks second in the Midsize Premium Sporty Car segment.

2015 Porsche 911

When selecting a Porsche 911 Cabriolet, there is no shortage of choices. Twelve different versions of this car are available, including the new Carrera GTS and Carrera Black Edition. Once a buyer settles on a model, a lengthy list of options presents numerous opportunities for custom tailoring to specific preferences.

In the 2015 IQS, the Porsche 911 is the highest-ranked model in the Midsize Premium Sporty Car segment.

2015 Porsche Boxster

A mid-engine, 2-seat roadster, the Porsche Boxster lineup expands for 2015, adding GTS, Spyder, and Black Series variants in addition to the standard Boxster and Boxster S. The new GTS enhances performance, while the Spyder simplifies the car while reducing weight. The Black Edition is based on the standard Boxster, equipping it with more features as well as styling upgrades inside and out.
