2015 Porsche Overview

The top story from the 2015 Porsche lineup is the introduction of two all-new models: the 2015 Macan, an SUV that features a choice of two powerful V-6 engines; and the 918, a 2-seat hybrid. Almost as momentous is a new ultra-luxe trim level for the Porsche Cayenne and Boxster models: the GTS. Otherwise, following some pretty drastic changes for the 2014 model year, Porsche's stable of luxury sport-oriented models hasn't changed much for 2015.

2015 Porsche 911

A new, fancier trim level, the GTS, is the 911's big change for 2015. The model underwent extensive updating for 2014, including available all-wheel drive (AWD), ceramic brakes, LED headlights, and restyling of the front and rear. The base 911 is available as a coupe, retractable-hardtop Targa, or the soft-top convertible Cabriolet. Standard equipment includes 19-in. alloy wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, navigation system, and a 9-speaker sound system. The base model features rear-wheel drive (RWD) and comes with a 3.4-liter 6-cylinder engine that makes 350 horsepower and 287 lb.-ft. of torque. The S versions, with RWD or AWD, employ a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine that makes 400 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. With the optional Carrera S Powerkit, this engine can generate 430 horsepower. The various iterations of the S trim level also include 20-in. wheels, adaptive suspension dampers, and a lower ride height. The GTS includes the Powerkit as standard equipment, upgraded wheels, sport exhaust system, various performance enhancements, Alcantara upholstery, and black interior accents. An extraordinarily extensive menu of individual options and option packages rounds out the offering. At the top of the line, the GT3 and 911 Turbo offer the most power, with the 911 Turbo S topping out at 560 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.

2015 Porsche 918 Spyder

Porsche's all-new super-powered roadster is actually a plug-in hybrid. However, unlike more popular hybrids like the Chevrolet Volt or the Toyota Prius, the 2-passenger 918 Spyder features a removable roof panel, can be completely recharged in as few as 25 minutes using a Porsche 400-watt high-speed charging station, can travel up to 18 miles or at 93 mph on electric power alone, and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 2.8 seconds, according to the automaker.

At the heart of the 2015 Porsche 918 is a 4.6-liter V-8 engine joined by a 115-kW electric motor for the rear wheels and a 95-kW motor for the front wheels. The system includes a Lithium-ion battery and a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.

2015 Porsche Boxster

A 2-passenger roadster, the 2015 Porsche Boxster comes in base and S variants, as well as the new GTS. The 2015 model is little changed from the previous year, save for a new front fascia on the GTS. The differences in trim levels are analogous to those of the 911, but at a somewhat less opulent level. The Boxster is known for its mid-engine design. It features RWD and Porsche's 7-speed automated manual transmission. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter, 265-horsepower 6-cylinder power plant that cranks up to 207 lb.-ft. of torque. The Boxster S features a flat 6-cylinder of 3.4 liters, making 315 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. The Boxster GTS features that same engine, modified to make 330 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque. All versions of the 2015 Boxster come with a menu of options, including special wheel designs, various performance features, and many custom options for the interior.

2015 Porsche Cayenne

For 2015, the Porsche Cayenne SUV lineup features 6-cylinder engines on all but the Turbo and Turbo S versions. At the top of the line, the AWD Cayenne Turbo S delivers 570 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged, 4.8-liter V-8 engine, which can crank out 553 lb.-ft. of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard. The company claims this high-performance variant of the Cayenne can reach 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and top out at 176 mph. Features include gloss-black 21-in. alloy wheels, electronic-locking rear differential, gauges tracking lap times and acceleration, widened wheel arches, and unique interior color combinations.

Other trim levels include the base Cayenne, Cayenne Diesel, Cayenne S, Cayenne S E-Hybrid, and Cayenne GTS.

2015 Porsche Cayman

The 2015 Porsche Cayman is little changed at most trim levels, but a new variant, the GT4, makes its debut this year. The 2014 Cayman underwent a slew of changes, including a longer wheelbase and wider track, improved brakes and steering, upgraded seats, and a bigger trunk, plus keyless entry and ignition. The new GT4 features a 3.8-liter, flat 6-cylinder engine that makes 385 horsepower and 309 lb.-ft. of torque. It operates with a 6-speed manual transmission. Otherwise, Porsche offers the Cayman in base form equipped with a 275-horsepower, 2.7-liter 6-cylnder engine that makes 213 lb.-ft. of torque; Cayman S, fitted with a 3.4-liter, 325-horsepower 6-cylinder motor that makes 273 lb.-ft. of torque; or a GTS version that has that same engine, souped up to make 340 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque.

2015 Porsche Macan

An all-new addition to the lineup for 2015, the Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV, smaller than the Cayenne. All-wheel drive is standard, but in most cases the power goes predominantly to the rear wheels, protecting the Macan's status as a performance vehicle. The 2015 Porsche Macan comes with a choice of two V-6 engines: a 3.0-liter unit that produces 340 horsepower and 339 lb.-ft. of torque, on the base Macan S; or a turbocharged, 3.6-liter 400-horsepower power plant that makes 406 lb.-ft. of torque, on the Macan Turbo. Both employ a 7-speed automated manual transmission.

Both the Macan S and Turbo feature 19-in. wheels, power liftgate, bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control, and a full menu of power accessories. The Macan S has an 11-speaker sound system; the Turbo's boasts 14 speakers. The Turbo adds LED fog lights, full leather upholstery (compared to leather and simulated suede for the S), Alcantara headliner, navigation system, upgraded sound system, and other enhancements.

Many options are available for the 2015 Macan, either individually or as part of equipment packages. These include summer performance tires, 20- or 21-in. wheels, Porsche Torque Vectoring, sunroof, 3-zone climate control, 16-speaker sound system, adaptive headlights with automatic high beams, voice command functions, adaptive cruise control, and an impressive list of performance enhancements. The interior trim can be customized to an exceptional degree. The Macan's various instruments allow the owner to enter, store, and analyze driving data.

2015 Porsche Panamera

The 2015 Porsche Panamera 4-door reprises the long-wheelbase models (stretched by 5.9 in.) and plug-in hybrid variations that debuted for the 2014 model year. The Panamera adds a Turbo S version for 2015; it features the 570-horsepower V-8 engine also found on the Turbo S version of the 2015 Porsche Cayenne, complemented by the 20-in. wheels found on the Porsche 911. Various option packages and individual options give the 2015 Panamera a high degree of customizability.
