2022 Nissan Rogue Sport Preview

In Europe, the Nissan Rogue Sport is called the Qashqai (kaash-kei). Nissan has redesigned the Qashqai, and though there is no official confirmation of this from the automaker, if you were in Las Vegas right now, you’d want to bet it will show up in the U.S. market later this year as the new 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport.

Designed and engineered in the United Kingdom, the 2022 Rogue Sport will adopt sharper design and lighting signatures similar to the larger Nissan Rogue and the redesigned 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. It is a little bigger than before and offers available 20-inch aluminum wheels and 2-tone paint.

Nissan plants the SUV on a new platform that it will undoubtedly share with future Mitsubishi and Renault models. It’s not a stretch of the imagination to think that a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport replacement would amount to a restyled version of the Rogue Sport, similar to how the all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is a different version of the Rogue.

Electrifying Powertrains - Find the best Nissan deals!

In Europe, the SUV exclusively uses electrified powertrains. Mild-hybrid engines are standard, powering the front or all four wheels. In the U.S. market, Nissan’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) is likely to come standard. Nissan says the available all-wheel-drive system reacts faster to front-wheel slip. Drivers can select between Standard, Eco, Sport, Snow, and Off-Road driving modes.

Nissan will offer a new e-Power drivetrain in Europe’s Qashqai. It has a 1.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine, but it serves as a generator instead of a propulsion unit. E-Power converts its output into electricity, which is fed to a 140-kW electric motor. Nissan says this arrangement maximizes efficiency, minimizes carbon emissions, and delivers the strong and seamless power people like about electric vehicles. The e-Power drivetrain never requires recharging, but it does offer Nissan’s e-Pedal one-pedal driving technology.

Rear passengers will enjoy more room for heads and legs, and cargo space grows. Because it is a popular family vehicle in Europe, the back doors open 90 degrees to aid the loading of children, especially those riding in child safety seats.

Expect a significant upgrade in terms of available technology. Highlights include:

  • A high-definition 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display with configurable layouts emphasizing different data
  • Upgraded infotainment with an available 9-inch touchscreen
  • The latest NissanConnect services, including a Wi-Fi hotspot and remote access to vehicle functions via a smartphone app

In Europe, the Qashqai features a new front-center airbag between the driver and passenger, and improved intelligent LED headlights to reduce glare for oncoming drivers.

Next-generation Nissan ProPilot Assist is available for the SUV, with a Navi-link upgrade including road sign recognition and the ability to automatically adjust vehicle speed according to navigation system speed-limit data and upcoming curves on the route. A new active collision prevention system steers the SUV out of harm’s way when a driver attempts an unsafe lane change. Automatic reverse braking and something Nissan calls “flank protection warning” helps reduce low-speed fender benders.
