The 2022 Audi Q5 Sportback is yet another SUV “coupe” that offers less interior space and odd exterior proportions for what is likely a higher price tag.
Two versions will be available. The standard Q5 Sportback has a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine while the performance-tuned SQ5 Sportback has a turbocharged V-6 engine. Audi’s acclaimed Quattro all-wheel-drive system is standard.
Audi will build the new 2022 Q5 Sportback in Mexico, and it is slated to arrive in the company’s U.S. showrooms by the summer of 2021.
Given its sportier mission within Audi’s SUV lineup, the Q5 Sportback gets standard S-line exterior detailing. Body-color trim replaces the gray cladding on European versions of the SUV, seen in the accompanying photographs.
Standard LED headlights light the way, and Audi’s matrix-design LED technology is available. The SQ5 Sportback gets a set of new rear organic light-emitting diode (OLED) taillights. A hands-free power tailgate is standard.
Equipped with a dashboard that mirrors the standard Q5, the Q5 Sportback adds sport-bolstered front seats with perforated leather. Several colors and dashboard trim inlays are available.
Audi says the Q5 Sportback comes with Rear Bench Seat Plus and claims the seats slide forward and back and offer adjustable seatback angles.
Though Audi did not define cargo space dimensions, with the Q5 Sportback’s more rakish roofline, it won’t hold as much as of your stuff as the standard Q5.
In standard specification, the Q5 Sportback has a mild-hybrid turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. It makes 261 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, and it should provide plenty of power. However, for maximum performance, the Audi SQ5 Sportback supplies a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 making 349 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque.
Both versions include Audi Drive Select, which allows the driver to calibrate the powertrain and other vehicle settings to specific preferences. The SQ5 has a standard adaptive damping suspension, and it offers an optional air suspension with ride height adjustment.
Dynamic steering with a variable steering ratio is available as an option. It provides light-effort assist and quicker response at low speeds, and higher-effort assist with greater directional stability at faster speeds.
Audi will equip the Q5 Sportback with adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assistance, a driving aid that makes heavy traffic more bearable. Additionally, the SUV will have front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, and Pre-Sense collision preparation technology. The company did not define which of these will be standard or optional.
Every Q5 Sportback will have Audi’s third-generation MIB3 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. Technology upgrades for this new Audi SUV include navigation, a Bang & Olufsen 3-D premium audio system, Audi Phone Box wireless smartphone charging and signal booster, Audi Virtual Cockpit digital instrumentation, and a head-up display.
