Chevrolet updates the Equinox's styling for 2016. A new grille design debuts, flanked by standard projector-beam headlights. The LT and LTZ versions have LED running lights and the Equinox LTZ gains a new fog light design.
Around back, revisions to the bumper and tailgate help create a freshened appearance, and new taillights are installed. The 2016 Equinox also features new aluminum wheel designs.
Improved seat fabric for the L and LS trim levels spruces up the 2016 Equinox's interior, and Saddle Up leather is a new color for the option.
Chevrolet has also modified the Equinox's center dashboard controls, and the SUV now comes with a standard touch-screen radio with a 7-in. diagonal screen. OnStar 4G LTE connectivity continues, including a free trial period to Wi-Fi hot-spot capability.
The Equinox's rear seat continues to slide fore and aft to mix and match space for people and cargo. Maximum cargo space numbers carry over from the 2015 model at 31.4 cu. ft. with the rear seat in use and 63.7 cu. ft. with the rear seats folded down.
Universal tablet computer holders are newly available for the 2016 Equinox, mounting to the rear of the front seats and designed to hold something like an iPad. This option is available as a dealer-installed accessory.
Under the Hood
Chevrolet has made no changes to the Equinox's powertrains for 2016. A 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard across the lineup, generating 182 horsepower. A 3.6-liter V-6 is available, generating 301 horsepower and improving towing capacity to 3,500 lbs.
The Equinox L is offered only with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an option on other trim levels.
For 2016, Chevrolet makes a reversing camera standard for the Equinox. Choose the LT or LTZ version to add a new blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert system. The Equinox continues to be available with a forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning system.
A standard touch-screen radio with a 7-in. display screen is now standard equipment for the Equinox. Chevrolet MyLink smartphone integration and connectivity, including Siri Eyes Free technology for iPhone users, is standard for the LT and LTZ.
