Calling it the "most technologically advanced vehicle Kia has ever introduced in North America," Kia introduced the 2014 Cadenza premium sedan at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new Cadenza is a new flagship luxury sport sedan for the Kia brand, and will likely eclipse the $40,000 price point when equipped with options.Exterior FeaturesFrankfurt native Peter Schreyer oversaw the Cadenza's design, so it is not surprising that Kia claims the 2014 Cadenza possesses a "taut, European design language." Kia highlights the new Cadenza's long hood, vertical nose, swept-back windshield, and other key design elements.

The 2014 Kia Cadenza is offered in a single level of specification and comes standard with LED running lights, heated and power-folding exterior mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, LED taillights, and 18-inch aluminum wheels with P245/45R18 tires.Interior FeaturesKia says the 2014 Cadenza's interior "radiates an uncluttered and sophisticated aesthetic," and it is trimmed in leather upholstery, wood chrome accents, and has ambient lighting. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather finished with wood, and includes paddle shifters for the transmission. The Cadenza fronts a Supervision gauge cluster, and it is equipped with an analog clock on the dashboard.

The standard equipment list is a long one, including a navigation system with an 8-inch color touch screen and real-time traffic reports, reversing camera, UVO infotainment and smartphone integration system with eServices technology, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 12-speaker, 550-watt premium audio system. A 10-way power driver's seat and dual-zone automatic climate control are also standard, as well as Smart Key passive entry with push-button ignition.

Optional Features

Options for the 2014 Kia Cadenza are grouped into two packages. The Premium package contains high-intensity discharge headlights with an adaptive front-lighting system and a panoramic sunroof. The cabin is upgraded with a 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD gauge cluster, premium leather upholstery, 12-way power driver's seat with ventilation and a cushion extension, heated front and rear seats, heated power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a power rear window sunshade.

The Technology package is also offered for the 2014 Cadenza, adding "Jet Turbine" 19-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in P245/40R19 tires, "water-repellant hydrophobic windshield," Advanced Smart Cruise Control, a blind-spot detection system, a lane-departure warning system, and a Back Up Warning system.

Under the Hood

Kia says the 2014 Cadenza's all-aluminum, direct-injection, 3.3-liter V-6 engine is the most powerful Kia has ever produced. It is rated to generate 293 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm running on regular unleaded fuel. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic manual shifting that drives the front wheels.

A sport-tuned suspension is standard for the 2014 Kia Cadenza, which rides on a MacPherson strut front suspension and a rear multi-link suspension.

In addition to the expected standard safety features, the 2014 Cadenza is equipped with a reversing camera and UVO eServices technology, which includes 911 assistance service.

Safety-related options for the Cadenza include an adaptive front-lighting system, blind-spot detection system, lane-departure warning system, and a Back Up Warning system.TechnologyKia offers the new 2014 Cadenza with an Advanced Smart Cruise Control system that automatically maintains a set distance from traffic ahead, and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
