The 2014 Audi RS 7 is a performance-tuned variant of the Audi S7, itself a sport-tuned version of the Audi A7. A 4-passenger, 5-door hatchback, the new RS 7 is the latest addition to an expanding range of RS-badged high-performance Audi models.
Observers can spot the RS 7 by its unique front and rear bumper designs, Gloss Black honeycomb grille, rear diffuser panel punctuated by elliptical exhaust outlets, and polished 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with a 7-split-spoke design. The RS 7 also features matte-finish Alu-Optic exterior trim, power-extending rear spoiler, and Xenon Plus headlights.
The 2014 Audi RS 7 is a 4-passenger vehicle, equipped with RS front sport seats featuring integrated head restraints. The seats are wrapped in leather and Alcantara, with diamond-quilted center sections. Rear-seat passengers benefit from additional bolstering and support.
The RS 7's driver faces a 3-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel and instrumentation including a lap timer and an Audi MMI Navigation Plus system. Triple-zone climate control, Audi Connect smartphone pairing with mobile Wi-Fi capability, and Audi Drive Select technology that lets the driver configure the engine, transmission, suspension, and other dynamic characteristics all come standard.
The new Audi RS 7 includes RS emblems on the key, gauges, steering wheel, door sills, and MMI display. A combination of Alu-Optic, Piano Black, and Carbon inlay cabin trim is standard, along with a black cloth headliner. Cargo volume measures 19 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 49 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down.
Audi will offer the 2014 RS 7 with a Comfort package, Dynamic package, and a Dynamic Package Plus, in addition to stand-alone extra-cost features. Key performance upgrades include carbon ceramic disc brakes with anthracite calipers, rear sport differential, sport exhaust system, Dynamic Steering, and a sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control. Red-painted brake calipers are available, as well as three different 21-inch wheel designs.
The RS 7's cabin can be upgraded with an Alcantara headliner, honeycomb-quilted premium leather, comfort-design seats, head-up display, and an Advanced Sound System from Bang & Olufsen.
Additional options for the new RS 7 include LED headlights, carbon-finish exterior mirrors, Carbon Styling package, and matte-finish Daytona Gray paint that is exclusive to this model. Buyers can further personalize the RS 7 through the Audi Exclusive program.
Under the Hood
The 2014 Audi RS 7 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 engine delivering 560 horsepower between 5,700 rpm and 6,700 rpm and 553 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750 rpm and 5,500 rpm. The engine is equipped with Cylinder on Demand technology, which allows it to operate on just four of its eight cylinders on the highway, and an automatic stop/start system that shuts off the engine when it is idling at an intersection or in traffic.
An 8-speed automatic transmission with Drive and Sport modes delivers the power to a torque-vectoring Quattro all-wheel-drive system with a 40:60 front-to-rear power split. Drivers can change gears manually using paddle shifters or a manual shift gate on the console.
According to Audi, the RS 7 accelerates to 60 mph in less than 3.9 seconds and, if the owner elects to have the dealer deactivate the speed governor, can achieve a top speed of 189 mph.
Additionally, the Audi RS 7 is equipped with an adaptive air suspension, lowered by 20 millimeters, and adaptive dampers. A 4-wheel, ventilated-disc braking system includes black-painted 6-piston calipers.
The new Audi RS 7 model's standard stability control system is equipped with a Sport mode to expand the performance-driving envelope in advance of activation. A safety-related adaptive cruise control system with Stop & Go and Audi Pre-Sense Front technology is optional, as well as Audi Active Lane Assist, Audi Side Assist, Audi Park Assist (autonomously steers the car when parking), and Night Vision Assistant with Pedestrian Detection.
