The 2013 Dodge Dart GT was originally expected to arrive wearing an "R/T" badge and to serve as the performance-oriented version of the entry-level sedan. However, Dodge instead elected to call the sport-tuned version of the model the Dart GT, with an historical nod to the 1963 Dart GT, which included a heavy-duty suspension and unique styling. Dodge says it "continues to investigate a high-performance R/T model."

Exterior Features

The 2013 Dodge Dart GT is based on the Dart Limited model. In exchange for its $1,000 premium, and to differentiate the new 2013 Dart GT from other Dart models, it receives a restyled front fascia, new Hyper Black crosshair grille treatment, and Black Chrome headlight bezels for a sportier appearance. The Dart GT is equipped with standard Satin Silver 18-inch aluminum wheels in a unique design, which can be optionally painted in Hyper Black. "Racetrack-style" LED taillights are also standard, along with body-color door handles and dual integrated exhaust outlets with chrome tips.

Interior Features

In addition to the special styling modifications listed above, the Dart GT comes standard with equipment that is optional on the Dart Limited. Those items include leather seats with red contrast stitching and available red perforation accents, dual-zone automatic climate control system with a humidity sensor, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and a universal garage door opener.

Optional Features

The 2013 Dodge Dart GT is offered with a Technology Group option package, which includes a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-path detection system, rear park-assist sensors, rain-sensing wipers, Smart Beam intelligent headlights, and an Enter 'N Go passive entry system with push-button ignition. Additional extra-cost options for the Dart GT include high-intensity discharge headlights, power sunroof, navigation system, and premium audio system with 10 speakers and satellite radio. The standard Uconnect system can also be upgraded with mobile Wi-Fi that works within 150 feet of the vehicle, according to Dodge.

Under the Hood

The 2013 Dart GT is the only version of the Dart equipped with a 2.4-liter
4-cylinder engine making 184 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. It replaces the turbocharged, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that comes standard in most other Dart models.

The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder is paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability is optional, and both transmissions drive the Dart GT's front wheels. The automatic is not the dual dry-clutch automated manual that is paired with the turbocharged 1.4-liter engine in other Dart models.

Another key difference between the Dart GT and other Dart models is the standard sport-tuned suspension with frequency-dampening shock absorbers.

The Dodge Dart GT is equipped with 10 standard air bags, a reversing camera, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, ready-alert braking, and rain brake support. The standard traction and stability control system includes trailer sway control, and the Dart GT is equipped with hill-start assist. The optional Technology Group adds Smart Beam headlights, rain-sensing wipers, rear park-assist sensors, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-path detection.

In government crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Dodge Dart received an overall safety rating of 5 (out of 5) stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has selected the 2013 Dart as a "Top Safety Pick."

The Dart GT comes standard with a 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) reconfigurable gauge cluster display and an 8.4-inch Uconnect information and entertainment system display located in the dashboard. As an option, the Uconnect system can be upgraded with mobile Wi-Fi connectivity, which Dodge says will work within 150 feet of the vehicle.
