Optional Features

In addition to new Sport, M Sport, Luxury, and Modern model series, the redesigned 3 Series Sports Wagon will offer several option packages and individual extra-cost items. As this preview is written, BMW confirms that the new 3 Series Wagon will be available with a new power tailgate with separately opening rear window glass, and that when paired with the car's available Comfort Access keyless entry system, owners will be able to power the tailgate open simply by waving a foot under the rear bumper.

Additional options planned for the new 3 Series Wagon include adaptive headlights with corona-ring driving lights, panoramic glass sunroof, color Heads-up Display, and BMW Apps smartphone integration technology with streaming Internet radio, Facebook access, and Twitter feed display.

Under the Hood

As this preview is published, BMW has not officially confirmed the new 3 Series Sports Wagon's powertrain lineup. However, it is a very safe bet to predict that the car will be available in 328i format at a minimum, equipped with BMW's 240-horsepower, turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with automatic stop-start technology and the company's Driving Dynamics Control system with ECO PRO fuel-economy maximization programming. BMW has not announced transmission selections, either, but the automatic is likely to offer 8 forward speeds and Steptronic manual shift control.

Safety

BMW confirms that the new BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon will be available with BMW Assist telematics including Automatic Collision Notification service. This feature activates when the car's air bags deploy, summoning assistance automatically and dispatching emergency personnel to the car's exact location to speed rescue.

Additionally, the new 3 Series Sports Wagon will be available with lane-departure warning, blind-spot detection, and a rearview camera with Top View safety systems.
