The new 2013 Aston Martin DB9 is a luxury performance grand touring car offered as a coupe or a convertible and equipped with 2+2 seating. The convertible model is called the DB9 Volante.

The new 2013 DB9 replaces the Virage model and slots under the upcoming Vanquish model. It will go on sale in the United States in November of 2012 at a starting price of $185,400.

Exterior Features

Constructed of aluminum, magnesium, and composite materials, the new 2013 DB9 employs traditional Aston Martin design cues, refined for greater aerodynamics, the automaker says.

Aston Martin says the metal grille's design is derived from the One-77 limited-production model, and that the new DB9 features zinc hood vents, bi-xenon headlights, LED turn signal repeaters embedded into the side strakes, and LED taillights. The DB9 rides on staggered-width 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero performance tires.

Interior Features

Swing one of the new Aston Martin DB9's doors open, and the cabin reveals Organic Electroluminscent gauges, glass switchgear, and power-adjustable sport seats fitted with hand-stitched, leather-welt upholstery.

Every 2013 DB9 is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, a navigation system, automatic climate control system, and a premium audio system with satellite radio, USB/iPod connection, auxiliary audio input jack, and a CD changer. Aston Martin also includes genuine walnut wood interior trim and an umbrella stowed in the trunk.

Optional Features

Although the new Aston Martin DB9 offers a long list of standard features, the automaker gives its customers a variety of choices in terms of wheel designs, exterior trim elements, and interior detailing.

A leather headliner and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel are optional, and DB9 Coupe buyers can elect to delete the car's rear seat. An Interior Carbon Pack option adds carbon fiber upper dash trim, door pulls, and paddle shifters, and the standard sound system can be swapped out for Bang & Olufsen BeoSound premium audio components.

In addition to several wheel options, buyers can choose an Exterior Carbon Pack option with a carbon-fiber front air splitter, carbon-fiber rear diffuser panel, carbon-fiber side mirror arms and caps, and graphite-finish exhaust pipes.

Under the Hood

Aston Martin says the new 2013 DB9 is equipped with a "new generation AM11 V-12 engine" employing "some of the Gen4 VH architecture hardware technology developed for Aston Martin's forthcoming new super GT, the Vanquish."

The DB9's front mid-mounted 6.0-liter V-12 engine generates 510 horsepower and 457 lb.-ft. of torque, and a Touchtronic 2 6-speed transmission equipped with a carbon-fiber propeller shaft drives the rear wheels. Aston Martin says the new DB9 will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, and can achieve a top speed of 183 mph.

Standard cross-drilled, carbon-ceramic matrix, "floating" brake discs are clamped by Brembo brake calipers, and air ducts in the front of the car direct cool air to the braking system. A new adaptive damping suspension is also standard, offering Normal, Sport and Track driving modes.


The 2013 Aston Martin DB9 is equipped with frontal- and side-impact air bags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, traction control, and a stability control system with Track mode. The new DB9 also includes a standard reversing camera, front and rear park-assist sensors, and rain-sensing wipers.

With the new DB9, Aston Martin has also created a patent-pending solution to pedestrian protection regulations. To preserve traditional Aston Martin styling cues, the DB9's engine sits lower in the car's structure and the metal grille is designed to move rearward upon impact. These changes, in addition to other engineering modifications, allow the new DB9 to meet regulations "without any compromise to the exterior design of the car," according to Aston Martin.
