New for 2015: Ram

2015 Ram Overview

When one thinks of Ram trucks, there's a chance thoughts of television commercials oozing with brawn come to mind, backed by a soundtrack of Sam Elliott saying words like "guts" and "glory" in his distinctly gravelly voice. However, the big news coming out of the Ram division this year centers around the debut of a small, 4-cylinder-powered, front-wheel-drive (FWD) van called the ProMaster City, which will compete in a growing segment already populated by models from Ford, Nissan, and Chevrolet. The full-size ProMaster cargo van returns for 2015 with an optional diesel engine, and the Ram Cargo Van returns unchanged.

As one might expect, Ram has also upgraded its lineup of pickup trucks, with a new paint color and instrument panel for the 1500, more power and capability for the 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab models, and some modifications to the trucks' option lists.

2015 Ram 1500

It's a big year for Ram's chief rival, the redesigned Ford F-150, but things are relatively quiet for the company's own 1500 light-duty truck. Aside from a new paint color and an updated instrument panel on the Laramie and SLTs equipped with the Luxury Group package, the 2015 Ram 1500 is essentially a carryover from 2014. This full-size pickup continues to be offered in myriad trim levels ranging from the Tradesman to the Laramie Limited, with power coming from a 3.6-liter V-6, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, or a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged diesel engine. Buyers have their choice of regular, quad, and crew cab body styles, and either 2-wheel-drive (2WD) or 4-wheel-drive (4WD) drivetrains.

What's New

  • Revised instrument panel for SLT and Laramie with Luxury Group
  • Black Forest Green paint color

2015 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty

Ram has made more than a few noteworthy upgrades to its 2015 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups, with highlights including a new supplemental rear air suspension system, increased payload and towing capacities, larger power-folding mirrors, and optional vinyl upholstery purported to be extra durable. Equally significant is the Cummins diesel engine's bump in torque, up from 850 lb.-ft. to 865.

  • Revised instrument panel for SLT and Laramie with Luxury Group

2015 Ram Cargo Van

The 2-passenger Ram Cargo Van, or C/V, which is essentially a gutted Dodge Grand Caravan with a heavy-duty suspension, has been carried over unchanged for 2015. Available in one trim level, the FWD 2015 Cargo Van features a 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, and can accommodate 1,800 lbs. of payload or tow up to 3,600 lbs.

2015 Ram ProMaster

All-new for 2014, the full-size Ram ProMaster cargo van arrives for 2015 with one important change-the diesel engine previously announced will now be an available option. Dubbed Ecodiesel, this turbocharged 4-cylinder motor generates 174 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, all of which is directed to the front wheels via a 6-speed automated manual transmission. The standard power plant is a gas-powered 3.6-liter V-6 mated with a traditional 6-speed automatic. Offered in 1500, 2500, and 3500 designations, the 2015 ProMaster can be configured with a low or high roof; short, medium or long wheelbase; single or dual rear wheels; and as a cutaway Chassis Cab model ready for aftermarket upfitters.
