2020 Ford Escape Review

Overview
The Escape is one of the smaller crossover SUVs in Ford’s lineup slotting below the Edge Explorer and Expedition. The current Escape softens the hot-hatch lines of the last model into something more organic and friendly. There’s some Mazda moments with a little Model 3 thrown in for good measure. The cockpit has some BMW-ish bands of controls styled like happy-robot faces. It’s a somber place with dark plastic and woodgrain trim decking out its restrained shapes.Base Escapes are powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-3 pegged at 181 horsepower on 93-octane gasoline. Power is sent to the front or four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 250 horsepower comes with all-wheel drive. The most frugal Escape is the Hybrid with its 2.5-liter inline-4 electric motor and 1.1-kilo-watt-hour lithium-ion battery pack sending 200 horsepower to the front or all four wheels via a continuously variable transmission. The IIHS named the Escape a Top Safety Pick but only in its top trim. Every Ford Escape comes with automatic emergency braking active lane control automatic high-beam headlights and blind-spot monitors. A forward-collision warning system can mitigate accidents at speeds up to 75 mph. Available adaptive cruise control adds lane-centering capability and a head-up display is available. With an 41 mpg combined EPA rating it’s the most fuel-efficient Escape on the market until the plug-in hybrid arrives.Starting from the mid $20 000s the Escape comes standard with LED taillights Bluetooth and a 4.2-inch LCD screen for its AM/FM radio. Upgrades range from an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and heated leather seats.
Technology
Your Ford Escape has the technology you want. Keep your eyes on the road your hands on the wheel and stay connected with voice-activated SYNC technology. Available Sync 3 adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Available navigation with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link uses GPS technology and 3-D mapping to provide voice-guided turn-by-turn directions so you can avoid congestion and get home sooner. Download the free FordPass app and you can find gas stations and parking spots schedule service appointments and more. Your Ford Escape. It’s packed with technology.
Safety
Every Ford Expedition comes with a full suite of Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist features to help you stay safe. Like the Lane-Keeping System that can help you stay between the lines. And the Blind-Spot Information System that lets you know when it’s safe to change lanes. And Cross-Traffic Alert that helps you back out of parking lots and driveways more safely. Available Adaptive Cruise Control maintains your speed when the road is clear and slows the car when it detects slower traffic ahead. The Ford Escape. Do more. Be safer.
Performance
The Ford Escape is powered by your choice of four powertrains. Get the most out of every drop of fuel with one of two available Aturbocharged EcoBoost gas engines. Or go green with an available Bhybrid or plug-in hybrid.
