This summer closed out with a bang! Dealers have reportedly been very busy all summer long. Inventory has been moving fast, especially travel trailers, toy haulers, as well as Class C and Class B motorhomes.
Interestingly, over the past six months dealers have reported fifth wheel inventory levels remain high. The oil market crash and hurricanes that have hit the southern region are contributing factors for the slow down in fifth wheel purchases. Another reason for the slower turn-over of fifth wheel inventory is a trending shift away from purchasing large units to the smaller trailers. We have seen this trend with baby boomers gradually downsizing from large Class A units to the smaller Class C and Class B motorhomes. Millennials also tend to gravitate towards the smaller trailers.
Though the industry as a whole is doing quite well, an upcoming election and a predicted cold winter could cause an industry slow down.
Based on our data findings and dealer feedback we will continue to see downward pressure on fifth wheels and older model year Class A motorhomes and travel trailers. Van motorhomes are expected to hold their values as they continue to be highly sought after, while Class C’s will see a slow-down in depreciation.
