As summer comes to an end we see market values moving away from the relatively flat depreciation to a larger decrease affecting a majority of model types. We anticipate this shift to hit in late fall due to winter conditions not appearing as early as we have seen in previous years.
If consumers continue to hold back on spending we could risk seeing a continued depreciation throughout the entirety of winter. While a majority of model types are seeing a small downtrend, some categories such as the utility side by side and ATV continue to hold strong as demand continues on a steady pace.
As 2017 models continue to hit the market, we are seeing very large incentives being offered by OEMs to clear out new non-current inventory in the pipeline, which could put downward pressure on late model used values.
The NADAguides powersports data is based on national averages; however, our analysts recognize the significance of regional variance by unit type. The following charts represent consumer traffic based on four regions. Traffic percentages for 2014 and 2015 are offered as a comparison to the year-to-date 2016 traffic.
A view of the national average gasoline prices and year-over-year change is supplied to provide support for longer-term strategic planning.
