Nissanâ€™s 5-seat midsize family sedan, Altima, first rolled off the Smyrna, TN, assembly line inâ€™92 as a 1993 model. Last year, Altima ranked third in segment sales, after Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The fifth-generation Altima was last redone as a sleek new car in 2013. Itâ€™s only available as a 4-door sedan, since the coupe was discontinued in 2014. The 2018 Nissan Altima also is a safety star with Top Safety Pick+ designation.
Altimaâ€™s design is based on Nissanâ€™s latest â€œEnergetic Flowâ€ architecture featuring a wide stance, sloping roofline, deep fenders and high trunk. For 2018, acoustic glass windshield is standard along with black V-Motion grille with chrome surround.
LED lighting systems on most trims offer a standard function that turns on lights when wipers are in use. Standard chrome dual exhaust tips, chrome door handles, trunk finisher add flair with available features including fog lights or heated outside mirrors with integrated LED turn signals.
The 2018 Nissan Altima comes in four 2.5-liter variants available in S, SV, SL and SR trims and a 3.5-liter SL variant. The SR trim has a sportier look and feel with a sport-tuned suspension, 18-in. alloy wheels, smoked headlight housings and rear spoiler, while SV and SL trims add more advanced safety systems including radar-based blind spot monitor.
An advanced drive assist 4.0-in. display screen sits in the middle of the Altima instrument cluster on a dashboard that features standard 5.0-in. touch screen display with available upgrades to NissanConnect with navigation plus 7.0-in. screen. Bluetooth, VR and streaming audio, USB port, iPod connectivity and Siri Eyes Free are standard. Higher-end 3.5 SL trim comes with upgraded NissanConnect and Bose audiophile system with nine speakers.
Nissan Altimaâ€™s â€œzero gravityâ€ seating for five includes adjustable driver and passenger buckets with 60/40 split fold-down rear bench for extra room. Altimaâ€™s trunk offers 15.4 cu.ft. of storage space. Standard upholstery is cloth with available leather or leatherette on some trims. Altimaâ€™s cabin features black and chrome trim with a choice of charcoal or beige interior treatments on upscale trims.
Several options packages are available including Convenience, Appearance and Technology groups. Altima 2.5 SR trim Midnight Edition â€œblackoutâ€ package includes all-black componentsâ€”18-in. aluminum alloy wheels, V-Motion grille, mirror caps, spoiler, special badging and license plate finisher.
A 2018 Altima 2.5 SR Special Edition package adds upgraded NissanConnect with navigation, plus leather and leatherette appointed seats (heated) and unique wheel treatments. SV and SL Technology packages include a plethora of add-on features such as a power glass moonroof, upgraded NissanConnect with navigation.
