Introduction

Calling it the "most dynamically capable, performance-focused, production Jaguar ever," the luxury automaker debuted the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The new F-Type Coupe is essentially a closed version of the existing F-Type Convertible, but is offered in a high-performance R variant that is unavailable for the convertible.

Exterior Features

Boasting all-aluminum construction, the 2015 F-Type Coupe possesses greater torsional rigidity than any previous production Jaguar, according to the company. Highlights include bi-xenon headlights with signature J-blade LED running lights, LED taillights, and retractable door handles. A rear spoiler automatically deploys when the car travels faster than 70 mph, adding 265 pounds of additional downforce on the rear drive wheels.

Interior Features

Standard equipment for the new Jaguar F-Type Coupe includes push-button engine starting, active retractable center air vents, and a touch-screen infotainment and navigation system with an 8-inch color display. Jaguar says the F-Type Coupe holds 11.65 cu. ft. of cargo, enough for two sets of golf clubs.

Optional Features

In addition to offering escalating levels of power and performance in the form of S and R models, the new F-Type Coupe can be fitted with premium leather, an extended leather treatment, performance seats, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Additionally, Jaguar offers keyless passive entry with its Smart Key system, as well as reconfigurable interior lighting, a panoramic glass roof, and what the automaker refers to as a power-operated tailgate. Jaguar also offers several exterior design packages for the F-Type Coupe, along with a Performance Pack offering hardware upgrades from more expensive versions of the car.

Under the Hood

The least expensive F-Type Coupe is equipped with a 340-horsepower, supercharged, 3.0-liter V-6 engine delivering 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 161 mph, according to Jaguar. The F-Type Coupe S bumps output to 380 horsepower, shaving the zero-to-60 acceleration time to 4.8 seconds and pushing maximum velocity to 171 mph.

Both of these engines are paired with an 8-speed Quickshift transmission with Auto and Sport modes providing full manual control over gear changes via shift paddles or the SportShift gate on the console. The F-Type Coupe S is also equipped with Adaptive Dynamics powertrain programming, an Active Sport Exhaust, Active Dynamics suspension, and a High Performance braking system.

The F-Type Coupe R model has a supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 engine making 550 horsepower--55 more horsepower than in the F-Type Convertible S V8. This version of the new F-Type Coupe also includes an Electronic Active Differential to provide a torque-vectoring effect, thereby improving the car's handling and responsiveness, according to Jaguar. A sports suspension with Adaptive Dynamics Damping and a Configurable Dynamic Mode is also standard for this model, along with a manually switched Active Exhaust system and a Super Performance braking system. Acceleration to 60 mph requires just 4 seconds, according to Jaguar, and the F-Type Coupe R's top speed is 186 mph.

Jaguar also offers an optional Carbon Ceramic Matrix braking system for the S and R models, which is designed to virtually eliminate brake fade while simultaneously reducing unsprung weight.

Safety

Choose the F-Type Coupe's optional Vision Pack and the car is equipped with an adaptive front-lighting system with Intelligent High-Beam. This feature swivels the headlights when turning to help the driver better see around corners, and automatically activates the high-beam headlights when it is safe to do so.

Additionally, the Vision Pack includes front and rear park-assist sensors, a reversing camera, Reverse Traffic Detection system, blind-spot monitor, and a Closing Vehicle Sensing system that warns the driver when faster traffic is approaching as a warning to wait to make a lane change.

Technology

A navigation system is standard for the new F-Type Coupe, and Jaguar offers its newest sports car with an optional 770-watt Meridian surround-sound audio system designed specifically for this car.
