IntroductionThe 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid is based on the completely redesigned 2013 Accord Sedan and arrives in dealer showrooms early in the 2013 calendar year. Honda says that a 2014 Accord Hybrid, without the plug-in technology, is also on the way, which will go on sale in the summer of 2013.
Exterior FeaturesThe 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid is distinguished from other Accord Sedan models by aerodynamic modifications designed to maximize fuel efficiency and battery range. The front bumper cover is different, the lightweight 17-inch forged aluminum wheels feature flat plastic covers and low-rolling-resistance tires, a rear spoiler is standard, and additional underbody panels smooth airflow under the car.
Honda also employs additional aluminum construction in the Accord Plug-in Hybrid to save weight, including an aluminum hood and aluminum suspension components. The spare tire is jettisoned in favor of a tire puncture repair kit.
The 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid will be sold with white, black or gray paint, and will include standard LED headlights, LED running lights, and LED taillights.
Interior FeaturesKey features of the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid's interior include bio-fabric seat material and HondaLink EV connectivity that allows the owner to schedule recharging for off-peak hours, remotely monitor the state of charge, receive alerts when the battery is finished recharging, and to warm or cool the interior before driving.

Under the HoodA 2.0-liter, Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine paired with a 124-kW electric motor and 6.7-kWh Lithium-ion battery pack powers the new 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid. Total combined system output equates to 196 horsepower.
The powertrain features all-electric, gasoline-electric, and direct-drive propulsion modes. Honda says the Accord Plug-in Hybrid can travel 10 to 15 miles in all-electric mode. Using a standard 120-volt household power outlet, the car recharges in less than 3 hours. Recharging takes less than 1 hour using a 240-volt outlet.
Honda is predicting an EPA fuel-economy rating of more than 100 MPGe combined with a driving range of more than 500 miles. The automaker also expects the California Air Resources Board to give the Accord Plug-in Hybrid an Enhanced AT-PZEV emission rating.
SafetyThe new Accord Plug-in Hybrid features updated Honda Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure construction. In addition to ACE, the Accord Plug-in Hybrid is equipped with 6 air bags, including side-impact air bags for front-seat occupants that feature a new SmartVent design that eliminates excessive deployment force, the automaker says. Traction control, stability control, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist are also standard on this model, along with a reversing camera and an expanded-view driver-side mirror designed to reveal traffic in the vehicle's left-side blind spot.
New safety features debuting on the 2013 Honda Accord are standard on the 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid. The LaneWatch blind-spot information system monitors traffic on the passenger's side of the car, while the forward-collision warning system alerts the driver if the Accord is in danger of striking a vehicle ahead. Additionally, the Accord Plug-in Hybrid includes adaptive cruise control and a lane-departure warning system.
