The first all-electric production car to be sold by Volkswagen in the United States, the 2015 e-Golf strongly resembles the gasoline-powered Golf models. Introduced in two trim levels, Limited Edition and SEL Premium trim levels with the five-door hatchback body style, unique traits of the e-Golf involve special 16-inch wheels mounted to low-rolling resistance tires and the use of all-LED headlights on the high-end SEL Premium model. The biggest distinction of the Volkswagen e-Golf is a synchronous permanent-magnet AC motor generating 115 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque used to propel the compact car. A 24.2 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack stores enough energy for an 83-mile driving range. A standard fast charging system allows drivers to replenish the e-Golf's battery to 80 percent charges in 30 minutes. The sales launch of the Volkswagen e-Golf in the United States took place in California but has slowly expanded. By mid-2016, availability of the Volkswagen e-Golf has stretched to 10 states and the District of Columbia.
