Volkswagen Beetle Model History
All New and Used Beetle Model Years and History
In 2003, the 1.8T engines were offered on the base GL model. Powered windows and cruise control were now offered as standard features alongside premium alloy wheels. All models, except the base GL, got a new sunroof, too, and the sports trim was eliminated. In 2004, the GLX trim was dropped, a new TDI engine was introduced, and brand new 16” and 17” wheels debuted. New standard safety features were added that included head curtain airbags and better head restraints. MP3 and satellite integration, along with a few new body colors, were the only big changes for 2005. The updated Beatle got a newer, sleeker style, new bumpers (front and back), new headlights and tail lights, a new interior console, new gauge cluster, updated sun visors and a new trim as part of the major 2006 redesign. In 2007, the TDI trim was discontinued. 2008-2010 saw no major changes to the popular new Beetle.
