Porsche Boxster Models and Boxster History

Side airbags were added as a standard feature to the Boxster in 1998. The following year, the gas tank was increased in size to house 14.1 gallons and some shuffling of trim levels took place. The performance Boxster S debuted in 2000, offering 250 horsepower. Improved interior lighting, an updated dashboard and a new gauge cluster were the key changes for 2001. The Boxster wouldnt see any changes in 2002, but would get new front and rear fascias and new turn signal lenses for 2003. Only a few trim levels were updated in 2004, but major changes were in store for 2005. All models got a power boost, a new manual transmission, larger front side air intakes, more stylish headlight treatments, updated door sills, windows and brakes, and standard stability control and head-level side airbags.

A more efficient GPS system graced the 2006 model with integration to smartphones. The base engine received a five horsepower boost in 2007, able to make 245 hp. It complemented an updated auto-shifter and standard tire pressure monitoring system. While 2008 saw no major updates, 2009 got a few. The base engine was enlarged to 2.9-liters, and the size of the touchscreen for the Porsche Control Management system was increased with hard drive based GPS offered. A new steering wheel was the only change for 2010. Bluetooth and iPod integration were made standard in 2011. No changes were in store for 2012, but an all-new design was unveiled in 2013. The only change for 2014 was the addition of the performance GTS trim level.
