Infiniti is down to five models. It sells the Q50 sedan, Q60 coupe, QX50 compact crossover SUV, QX60 midsize crossover SUV, and QX80 large SUV. Of this quintet, the QX50 and QX60 compete in the most popular segments. And while Infiniti redesigned the former for 2019, the latter dates back to the JX35 of 2013.

Now, the time has come for a redesign of Infiniti’s best-selling model. The 2022 Infiniti QX60 midsize 3-row SUV remains based on the all-new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, and by all indications, it blends stylish design, quality materials, and modern technology in an appealing package.

Heavily influenced by the Japanese concept of “Ma,” Infiniti designers say they pursued a quest for minimalism and harmony for the new 2022 QX60. Infiniti’s original brand launch in 1989, which emphasized spirituality and serenity more than it did the company’s vehicles, also served as a well of inspiration for the redesigned SUV.

More details related to equipment and pricing will be available as the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 release date of late 2021 approaches. Still, the SUV will likely come in multiple trim levels, including a new high-end Autograph version loaded with finery.

According to Infiniti, the company’s existing QX60 owners told it the next-generation model needed more presence. So consider that box on the customer wish list checked.

Overall, in terms of proportion, the new QX60 features a taller hood, a more vertical nose, and a teardrop roofline that tapers toward the rear of the SUV to give it a broad-shouldered appearance. In addition, the oversized grille contains origami-inspired mesh, and Infiniti says the LED headlights have kimono folds.

Most versions of the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will have 20-inch aluminum wheels, and the new Autograph trim level will offer a black painted roof option. In addition, Digital piano-key lighting elements distinguish the front running lights and taillights, and Infiniti offers a fresh signature paint color called Moonbow Blue, inspired by the summer sky at dusk.

All new QX60s will have a standard power liftgate, most versions also featuring hands-free activation.

Claiming that it “embraces Japanese minimalism in its shape but balances that in its details,” Infiniti says the new 2022 QX60’s interior emphasizes horizontal lines to enhance the feeling of spaciousness, includes a higher center console with a gentle sweep to it, and displays arching gestures throughout to create a sense of nature and beauty.

As was true before, the QX60 offers seating for up to seven people, and the company claims it has improved comfort levels. However, Infiniti stops short of saying that the QX60’s third-row seat is adult-friendly, suggesting that it is perhaps best reserved for children.

Added sound-deadening materials promise a quieter ride, and Infiniti says the QX60 contains numerous soft-touch surfaces and ambient cabin lighting along with a standard panoramic glass roof. In addition, a triple-zone automatic climate control system is standard, employing a touch-sensing haptic feedback control panel instead of physical knobs and buttons.

In its quest for maximum comfort, Zero Gravity front-seat designs aim to emulate the weightlessness of space. They include 8-way power adjustment and standard heating, and both a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats are available. In addition, seat ventilation is offered for most versions, according to Infiniti, and the more expensive versions of the new 2022 QX60 offer a massage function.

Speaking of the more expensive versions, the new Autograph trim level serves as the top-of-the-line QX60. It features Saddle Brown quilted semi-aniline leather with contrast double-stitched accents and piping, open-pore wood trim, and seat surface patterns that Infiniti says emulate the ripples on a pond.

Though Infiniti doesn’t say the second- and third-row seats employ the same Zero Gravity approach to their design, the company does promise improved comfort. Theatre-style seating, in which each row rises higher to ensure proper outward visibility, likely helps in this regard. The QX60 Autograph has standard second-row captain’s chairs divided by a center console.

As was true in the previous-generation QX60, the second-row seats slide and tilt with the touch of a button to provide access to the third row. Better yet, if you have a child safety seat installed in the second row, there is no need to remove it first. In addition, the new QX60 offers four sets of child seat LATCH anchors in the second- and third-row seats.

As far as cargo capacity goes, the SUV holds:

  • 14.5 cubic feet behind the third-row seat
  • 41.6 cubic feet behind the second-row seats
  • 75.4 cubic feet with both rows folded flat

Additionally, an underfloor compartment offers nearly two cubic feet of storage space. Infiniti also claims the new QX60 offers improved in-cabin storage.

When it goes on sale at the end of 2021, the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will have a 3.5-liter V6 engine making 295 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 270 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm. Infiniti says its customers are not asking for electrification, but the company confirms the QX60’s platform could easily host an electrified powertrain. Infiniti suggests we all stay tuned on the electrification front.

A 9-speed automatic transmission powers the front wheels unless you opt for the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, which sends up to half of the engine’s power to the rear wheels as is necessary. Active Brake Limited Slip will brake a spinning wheel and direct torque to the wheels with grip. When equipped with AWD, the QX60’s maximum tow rating increases by 20 percent to 6,000 pounds.

This SUV is not intended for off-road driving. It offers the following clearances:

  • 15-degree approach angle
  • 15.5-degree breakover angle
  • 22.5-degree departure angle
  • 6.7 inches of ground clearance

However, neither is the new QX60 intended for enthusiast driving. Instead, according to Infiniti, the redesigned QX60’s mission is to serve busy professionals in leadership positions.

Safety Systems - Find the best Infiniti deals!

As far as safety is concerned, every new 2022 QX60 includes a predictive forward-collision warning system that can detect what’s happening two vehicles ahead. Additionally, the QX60 has standard pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency stop assistance, and rear automatic braking.

An enhanced version of Infiniti’s ProPilot Assist advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) is available for the new QX60. According to Infiniti, this hands-on Level 2 driving aid offers more natural feeling steering inputs and braking activity than before. It can also resume travel for up to 30 seconds after bringing the SUV to a complete stop and uses navigation and GPS data to slow the SUV for upcoming curves and off-ramps automatically.

Additionally, Infiniti confirms that both a traffic sign recognition system and adaptive headlights will be available. Presumably, the SUV will also offer blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

Infotainment and Technology - Find the best Infiniti deals!

Tentatively it seems, the QX60 introduces the term Infiniti IQ in relationship to its onboard technology. Nebulously defined at the moment, Infiniti IQ appears to reference the pairing of an available digital instrumentation panel with a new InTouch infotainment system. However, it could also include some of the SUV’s ADAS.

Every 2022 QX60 features a new InTouch 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. InTouch Connected Services offers Wi-Fi service and a personal assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto. In addition, there are up to seven USB charging ports, with at least one in all three rows of seats.

Upgrades include wireless smartphone charging with an oversized charging mat and a new 17-speaker Bose Performance Series sound system that Infiniti says was designed specifically for the QX60.

The Infiniti IQ 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display is an option, along with a 10.8-inch head-up display and a Smart Rearview Mirror that, by its description, appears to be a rearview camera mirror. Buyers can also upgrade to a Plasmacluster air ionizer with grape polyphenol charcoal particulate filtration to remove allergens from the cabin.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Competitors - Find the best Infiniti deals!

Infiniti says the new QX60 is designed to retain existing owners while delivering luxury, technology, and utility to people who “embrace the chaos of life.” These are not people with lots of free time, says Infiniti, so their vehicle needs to help them efficiently manage the day-to-day. Read between the lines, and we’re talking about upper-middle-class families.

When the 2013 Infiniti JX35, the precursor to the QX60, first debuted, few luxury SUVs were equipped with standard 3-row seating. Today, the list of alternatives is longer:

Not only must the Infiniti QX60 battle these direct luxury-branded competitors, but the top-shelf versions of vehicles such as the Ford ExplorerHyundai PalisadeJeep Grand Cherokee LKia Telluride, and Mazda CX-9 are also contenders for this customer.
