Mercedes Benz GLC Models and GLC History

The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class compact luxury crossover was renamed GLC-Class for the 2016 model year positioned between the smaller GLA-Class and larger GLE-Class in a similar fashion to the German brand's cars. In addition to the name change, the GLC-Class underwent a complete redesign for 2016. The new generation Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class enjoyed a series of design and mechanical enhancements over its predecessor. Longer in wheelbase and overall length than the previous GLK, the 2016 GLC-Class proudly boasts 2.2 inches more rear seat legroom. Despite growing in size, the Mercedes-Benz compact premium utility vehicle's use of aluminum and high-strength steel construction allowed the vehicle to shed 176 pounds compared to its 2015 counterpart. Available only as the GLC300 with rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive, the model features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder came paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. One year after the introduction of the GLC, Mercedes-Benz brought two significant additions to the luxury utility vehicle line. Debuting for 2017, the Mercedes-AMG GLC45 came equipped with a sport-tuned suspension, enlarged brakes, 20-inch light alloy wheels and a 362-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. Also in 2017, the GLC nameplate will branch out into a Coupe body style featuring an aggressively sloped roof line.
