Kia Rio 5-door Models and Rio 5-door History
A five-door hatchback version of the subcompact Kia Rio initially debuted in the United States as part of the second generation introduced in 2006. Known as the Rio5 from 2006 to 2011, the hatchback achieved a sporty look and came well-equipped for its category. The Kia Rio5's design also supplied a 30 percent improvement in cargo capacity over the Rio sedan. A 110-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder powerplant propelled the first generation Rio five-door hatchback. Stunningly redesigned for 2012, a new Rio 5-door extracted more youthful charm backed up by a 138-horsepower gasoline direct-injected engine. Noticeably shorter than its sedan counterpart, the 2012 model year Rio 5-door boasted greater rear cargo room. Styling updates were performed to the Kia Rio 5-door hatchback in 2016 resulting in a refreshed front and rear appearance. For the 2018 model year, an all-new Kia Rio 5-door hatchback gained an aggressively elegantly look that included the brand's ‘tiger-nose' grille. Equipped with 17.4 cubic feet of rear cargo room, the 2018 Rio 5-door was powered by an updated 1.6-liter engine. Electric power steering, display audio system and the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission are also found on the new Kia Rio 5-door.
