In 2001, Kia introduced the Optima, officially making anentrance into the luxury auto market. It offered several trim levels, aplethora of decadent options and the choice of either a four or six-cylinderengine. The 2002 Optima introduced larger 15 wheels, keyless entry, anupgraded V6 engine and a few new trim levels. In 2003, Kia redesigned the bodystyle, discontinued the four-cylinder manual transmission, upgraded the soundsystem to a premium Infinity brand, and upgraded and added several trim levels.
The 2004 Optima featured larger 16 wheels, a standard V6 engine and minorupdates to various trims. In 2005, Kai updated the turning signal lenses andoffered optional leather upholstery. The 2006 Optima saw an improved engine forthe four-cylinder and was a mid-year release, dubbed the 2006.5; its second runoffered a newer body style and a redesigned interior (2007). No major changeswere made to the 2008 Optima. In 2009, Kia offered new trim options, larger 17wheels and a brand new V6 engine that was rated at 164 horsepower, while alsomaking improvements to the safety features. The 2010 Optima offered remotestart standard across the model line.
In 2011, Kia introduced a brand new andcompletely redesigned Optima. The 2012 Optima saw an optional Uvo voice commandsystem, redesigned front seats and a few minor trim changes. In 2013, the EXTurbo trim was discontinued and the Limited trim was introduced; Kia also addeda trim level to their hybrid model. The 2014 Optima offered a few new changes,including a new touchscreen, parking sensors (rear) and a blind spot monitoring system.
