Infinitis first foray into the emerging luxury crossover utility vehicle market, the FX35 debuted in 2003. Competing against the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the BMW X5, the Infiniti FX line was created on a car-based platform. Incorporating an unconventional sport utility vehicle shape, the Infiniti FX featured aggressive body curves and long hood line for a sports car-like stance. Available with two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the FX35 represents the six-cylinder powered model of the Infiniti crossover. The FX35 model of the Infiniti luxury crossover vehicle was powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Incorporating continuous variable valve timing and electric throttle control, the 2003 FX35s powerplant generated 280 horsepower channeled through a five-speed automatic transmission.
Four-wheel disc brake with anti-lock braking system, 18-inch aluminum wheels, keyless entry, cruise control, heated mirrors as well as front, side and side-curtain airbags were included standard on the 2003 Infiniti FX35. The 2005 FX35 and FX45 was the first vehicle sold in North America to be offered with a Lane Departure Warning system. A host of exterior, interior and equipment upgrades were performed to the 2006 model year Infiniti FX35. A new grille, standard leather seating with front heated seats and RearView Monitor are a few enhancements found on the 2006 FX35. Completely reengineered for 2009, an all-new second-generation Infiniti FX35 featured a longer overall length and more adventurous front-end styling. Inside the 2009 FX35, a 300-watt Bose audio system with six-disc CD changer was a new standard addition to the crossover.
Propelled the second-generation FX35 was an enhanced 303-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine linked to a seven-speed automatic transmission. In 2012, Infiniti bid farewell to the FX35 with a Limited Edition model. Featuring an exclusive Iridium Blue exterior paint color, the 2012 FX35 AWD Limited Edition model included 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, Around View Monitor and the Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System. The Infiniti FX37 replaced the FX35 crossover for the 2013 model year.
