For 2009, the GMC Yukon Hybrid was given an extensive luxury detail with the high-end Denali trim package. Compared to the conventional Yukon Hybrid, the Denali trimmed model is enhanced by 22-inch chrome wheels and MagnaRide suspension on the outside while adding a complete assortment of interior comforts. Constructed on the 116-inch wheelbase, the 2009 GMC Yukon Hybrid Denali existed as a premium display for the gasoline/electric truck powertrain.

Using a 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 gasoline engine as the main source of power, electrical component of the Yukon Hybrid Denali is largely based on a special automatic transmission. Called a two-mode transmission, an automatic gearbox with four forward gears is enhanced by a pair of integrated 60-kilowatt electric motors. Fed by a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack, two-mode gearbox or electrically variable transmission is capable to provide the sensation of seamless gear changes resulting in more efficient operations of the gasoline engine. In addition to the gasoline engines Active Fuel Management technology, regenerative braking and Auto Stop that automatically shuts off the powerplant when the GMC Yukon Hybrid Denali is stopped, the sport utility vehicle achieves an average 20 miles per gallon fuel efficiency when equipped as a four-wheel drive. A two-wheel drive version of the 2009 Yukon Hybrid Denali was also available providing slightly improved fuel mileage.

Featuring a cabin area capable of seating up to eight passengers, the GMC Yukon Hybrid Denalis interior consisted of standard leather seating offered in Ebony or Cashmere color. The front row driver and passenger would ride in 12-way power adjustable heated/cooled seats while the second row seats were heated. Navigation radio, Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System audio and a rear backup camera was also standard on the 2009 GMC Yukon Hybrid Denali. The Yukon Hybrid Denali remained available until the end of the 2013 model year.
