Dodge created the Stratus brand in 1995 as a direct competitor to popular import brand family sedans the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Receiving a more prominent grille treatment in 2004, the Stratus Sedan entered 2005 essentially unchanged. Two trim level choices existed for the 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan consisting of the SXT and R/T.

The Stratus Sedan SXT is equipped with a 150-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder powerplant. This engine was also available in a model that complies with Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) standards. Fuel economy for the 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan SXT with the 2.4-liter engine was rated at 22 miles per gallon city and 30 miles per gallon highway. Other standard equipment on the 2005 Dodge Stratus SXT sedan included a four-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick shifter, power mirrors, power windows and 16-inch aluminum wheels.

The 2005 model year also included a Special Edition package with the Stratus SXT where high-end equipment such as chrome wheels, leather steering wheel and shifter as well as a six-disc CD changer. Feeding 200 horsepower to the front-wheel drive system thanks to a standard 2.7-liter V-6 engine, the 2005 Stratus Sedan R/T model also featured performance-tuned steering, sport-tuned exhaust and a premium headliner. The final year of production for the Dodge Stratus Sedan, the 2006 model year version of the mid-sized car was no longer companioned with a two-door coupe.

Offered in up to nine exterior paint colors, the 2006 Stratus Sedan R/T model was enriched by a new rear spoiler and leather seating with perforated inserts. For the 2008 model year, Dodge redesigned and rebranded their mid-sized sedan as the Avenger.
