About Ram 3500

The Ram 3500 was part of a radical for the Dodge full-sized truck line-up that emerged during 1994. Existing as the largest capacity version of the pickup truck, the dual rear wheel, one-ton Dodge Ram 3500 featured an eight-foot long bed box and power from a host of potent engines. A 5.9-liter Magnum V-8 furnished base power for the 1998 Ram 3500 generating 250 horsepower.

Optional engines available with the Dodge Ram 3500 in 1998 consisted of a gasoline-powered Magnum V-10 and a Cummins diesel. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations were offered with the pickup truck. In 2001, a Ram 3500 equipped with the 5.9-liter Cummins turbocharged diesel mated to a six-speed manual transmission could pull up to 15,100 pounds of weight using a 4.10 rear gear.

In 2003, a new version of the one-ton Dodge pickup truck featured a larger front grille and was offered with a regular cab or Quad Cub body style. A four-door Mega Cab was added to the Ram 3500 line-up starting in the 2006 model year. The 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 came with standard power from a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine producing 345 horsepower. A 305-horsepower 8.0-liter Magnum V-10 powerplant was offered for the final time in 2003 on the Dodge Ram 3500.

Optional on the Ram 3500, the 5.9-liter Cummins diesel engine provided maximum torque and optimized towing capacity. In mid-2007, an all-new Cummins turbocharged diesel engine featuring a 6.7-liter displacement size was offered generating up to 650 pound-feet of torque.

Capable of towing up to 16,850 pounds, the new engine was also cleaner and more efficient than the previous diesel. After a 2009 redesign with updated performance and construction, the Dodge Ram 3500 became part of Chryslers all-new Ram brand in 2011.
