Based on the long wheelbase version of the family-oriented Dodge minivan, the Grand Caravan Cargo Van is marketed to tradespeople and other commercial enterprises. For 2006, the Dodge Grand Caravan Cargo Van utilized the fourth-generation body style for the popular minivan. Eliminating the second and third row seating typically found standard on the passenger version of the Grand Caravan, the cargo van fleet vehicle provided an unobstructed storage area. With dual sliding doors, the side of the 2006 Grand Caravan Cargo Van featured standard coverings over the rear passenger windows concealed the rear cargo compartment.

On the 2007 Grand Caravan Cargo Van, glass windows (an option on the 2006 model) were included standard on the sliding door. Standard equipment found on the Dodge Grand Caravan Cargo Van included 16-inch steel wheels, four-wheel anti-lock braking system and a 180-horsepower, 3.3-liter V-6 engine combined with a four-speed automatic transmission. Along with burning gasoline, the 3.3-liter V-6 engine could also be factory equipped as a flex fuel model capable of running on E85 blended fuel.

Corresponding with the passenger version of the Grand Caravan, the Grand Caravan Cargo Van received an all-new fifth-generation revision for 2008. The 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Cargo Van was two inches longer than the previous generations model. Additional upfitter capability and a dual glove box were also designed into the 2008 version of the cargo van. In 2010, payload capacity for the Grand Caravan Cargo Van was increased from 1,500 to 1,800 pounds.

The 2011 model year was the final time the Dodge Grand Caravan Cargo Van was sold. A slightly altered version of the cargo duty minivan was introduced as the Ram Cargo Van in 2012.
