Launched in Europe for the 2010 model year, the BMW X1 subcompact crossover vehicle made a long-awaited arrival in the United States for 2013. Sharing a platform with the BMW 3 Series sedan, the BMW X1 is provided as an affordable premium crossover utility with a dose of luxury. The 2013 model year BMW X1 was introduced with two available turbocharged powerplants. On the 28i model, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine provides 240 horsepower. The 2013 BMW X1 is available in the United States with the choice of a rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrain when powered by the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. BMW X1 28i models have a fuel economy of 23 miles per gallon city or 34 miles per gallon highway. Generating 300 horsepower, the xDrive35i model is propelled by BMWs TwinPower 3.0-liter inline-six powerplant. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode, the BMW X1 xDrive35i crossover can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. The BMW X1 xDrive35i also comes standard with high-end features such as xenon headlights and a panoramic sunroof. With seating for five passengers, the cabin area of the X1 has the storage capacity of 27.6 cubic feet when the rear seat is up or 63.6 cubic feet with the rear seat is folded down. Standard convenience features found on the 2013 BMW X1 included automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers and cruise control. For the 2014 model year, the subcompact premium crossover received BMW Assist eCall and BMW TeleService.
