Easily the most storied model in the BMW M line-up, the M5 was first produced in 1985. Often the most powerful version of the M division, the BMW M5 has been considered the pinnacle for the German high-performance vehicle line. Introduced in 2006 based on the E60 vehicle platform, the BMW M5 featured a 5.0-liter V-10 engine generating 500-horsepower. In the United States, the V-10 engine power of the 2009 BMW M5 could be channeled through either a seven-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.


In addition to being perfected for handling and straight-line performance, the 2009 M5 sedan was loaded with luxury amenities. A Logic7 Surround Sound audio system and unique sport seats with 18-way power-adjustment are found inside. Introduced in mid-2012 as a 2013 model, an all-new BMW M5 debuted on the new F10 platform. Dropping the V-10 engine in favor of a twin-turbocharged V-8, the new powerplant of the 2013 BMW M5 was more powerful but boasted better fuel economy than the previous generation vehicle. Horsepower for the 2013 BMW M5 was rated at 560 while also delivering 500 pound-feet of torque. The rear-wheel drive sport sedan provided drivers with the option of linking engine power with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission.


0 to 60 miles per hour acceleration for the 2013 M5 sedan was rated at 4.5 seconds. Merino leather upholstery, multi-color heads-up display and a four-zone climate control system is found standard inside the 2013 BMW M5. In 2014, the BMW M5 can be opted with a Competition Package that greater enhances engine performance to 575 horsepower.
