Audi S5 Cabriolet Models and S5 Cabriolet History
Coupled with roll-out of the Audi A5 Cabriolet in 2010, an ‘S' badged performance-enhanced variant to the drop top gave drivers or occupants a stronger sensation of wind-in-the-hair motoring. Besides the power actuated soft top roof and other structural tailoring to accept the convertible shape, the 2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet's source of performance differs from its hardtop platform sibling. While the S5 Coupe maintained an eight-cylinder engine, a supercharged six-cylinder power unit was dropped into the convertible variant. Producing 333 horsepower, the 3.0-liter V-6 used for the Audi S5 Cabriolet connected to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission good enough for 0 to 60-mile per hour acceleration in 5.3 seconds. Audi performed a noticeable styling update to the S5 Cabriolet for 2013 resulting in an enhanced Singleframe grille as well as new headlights and tail lamp housing designs. Changes to the Audi S5 Cabriolet were minor from 2014 to 2017. For the 2018 model year, a new generation S5 Cabriolet features a more dynamic appearance with a lower, wider grille, sloped hood line and chiseled lines. More rigid than the previous model, the 2018 Audi S5 Cabriolet boasted a 99-pound reduction. Momentum arrives from a re-developed turbocharged 3.0-liter engine generating 252 horsepower allowing under 5-second acceleration times.
