While Audi was familiar with all-wheel drive technology since the late 1970s, the luxury car brand chose not to enter into the crossover vehicle market until the mid-2000s. Arriving in the United States in 2006 for the 2007 model year, the Audi Q7 debuted as a seven-passenger luxury crossover to directly compete against the Range Rover Sport, Mercedes-Benz ML-Class and BMW X5. Upon introduction, the Audi Q7 immediately set roots in the premium crossover utility field with a large, comfortable interior and impressive available features. The 2007 Q7's tall stature and optional air suspension served as an exciting opportunity to fully experience Audi's quattro all-wheel drive in off-road riding. The Audi Q7 originally arrived with a choice of a V-6 or V-8 gasoline powerplant. A TDI diesel engine was offered on the Q7 in the United States starting in 2009 while a minor redesign gave the 2010 version of the crossover a new front end appearance. For the 2017 model year, an all-new Audi Q7 is completely re-engineered to be substantially lighter, upgraded interior comforts and available all-wheel steering.
