We have the conversion version of the Metris (by Explorer Van Co.). The interior and exterior are very distinct. Interior size is great but cargo space is a little below average. Interior (conversion) trimmings are very nice on the surface but lower than expected quality after living with it a bit. The tires are already bald despite gentle driving style. Conversion-related service (as opposed to basic Mercedes vehicle service) is a pain (can take 3 weeks). Ultimately, third party (Explorer Van) involvement is a problem and Mercedes doesn't take responsibility.

I purchased a black, cargo Metris. I added some options such as tailgate with heated window, window in right sliding door, towing package, upgraded steering wheel, bulkhead divider with window, heated seats, which brought the price up to $40K. I looked at Ram Promaster but I think Mercedes Metris is better made (last longer), rides better more like a car than a truck, and ,most importantly, makes a much better impression on my upscale clientele. Less cargo room than the Promaster but enough for my needs--certainly way more than my old Town & Country, which this vehicle replaced. Interior is spartan but quality. Small engine gets great gas mileage, ave. 25 mpg. Small turbo allows vehicle to develop all torque at low engine speed, which helps to maintain speed on highway inclines with heavy load. Towing and hauling capacity is outstanding. Transmission shifts at just the right time, not constantly but when needed. Biggest negative is low profile tires, which seem to be the trend, have already bent one wheel. I wish I could put taller tires but that is not recommended. Ride is a little too firm probably due to the high hauling capacity and low profile tires. BlueTooth radio connection to cell phone playing music sometimes craps out and I have to reset the whole thing every so often. Heated seats get too hot. exterior windows a little on small side but livable. Mercedes charges too much for oil changes but I do my own. Third party roof rack availability is minimal. Van Tech makes a Metris specific rack but it requires some re drilling to make it fit.

The only drawback that I can think of having driven in for over 13,000mi, is head clearance getting into our metris van.
