Special features for 2015
The BMW 5-Series stands out as a traditional luxury sport sedan that not only offers strong, uncompromised performance but also some leading-edge safety and connectivity technology. Increasingly, the 5-Series has an advantage over most of its rivals in that it offers more fuel-saving measures than most other sport sedans, with items such as Auto Start/Stop, turbocharging, direct injection and a special "Eco Pro" driving mode combining to provide significant gains in gas mileage. A diesel model, the 535d, offers yet another fuel-saving powertrain option. Otherwise, the 5-Series sedans offer more comfortable, refined cabins than other sport sedans, and the 5-Series Gran Turismo body style is a good pick for those who want a little more cargo flexibility.
A popular luxury midsize sedan, the BMW 5 Series comes in multiple trims and is offered as a rear-wheel-drive model, with an available all-wheel-drive xDrive model (there is also a hybrid version, too). The base trim level includes 17” alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlamps (adaptive), heated side mirrors, powered sunroof, automatic windshield wipers, interior wood trim, remote entry and start, two-zone climate control (automatic), ambient interior lighting, powered front seats, leatherette premium vinyl seating (upgradable to full-grain leather), the BMW Assist emergency communications system, the iDrive electronics interface, Bluetooth/iPod/USB integration, and a 10-speaker premium audio system. Upgrade trims will net you larger wheels, leather upholstery, parking sensors (front and rear), backup camera, a larger engine, trim accent options, a super-premium 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, LED lighting (interior and exterior), a parking assist system, adaptive suspension dampers, and many others. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powers the 5 Series, rated at 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Upgraded trims can offer a beefier turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that makes 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque; a 3.0-liter diesel inline-6 engine that delivers 255 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque; or a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that churns out 443 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The 5 Series is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile warranty.
