2014 model year changes
Jeep has initiated several key changes to the ever-popular Grand Cherokee for 2014. Outside, the SUV has updated styling, particularly up front, with revised headlights, grilles, fog lamps and lower fascias. New LED taillights make their way onto the Jeep as well. Inside, the Grand Cherokee includes a new steering wheel with paddle shifters and a new electronic gear shift selector. A new 8.4-inch UConnect infotainment system anchors the revised center stack, and a new 7-inch configurable screen sits front and center in the gauge cluster. New safety features make their way into the 2014 Grand Cherokee as well, including front park assist, front collision alert, and adaptive cruise control. Several trim and accessory changes also dot the landscape of the Grand Cherokee, allowing for increased choices when ordering. The biggest news for the Grand Cherokee is under-hood, however, with several powertrain updates. Chief among them is the addition of a new 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. The engine produces 240 hp and a substantial 420 ft-lb of torque, with an EPA estimated 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway in 4x2 models. It allows for a 7,400-lb tow rating. An 8-speed automatic transmission is now standard, and Jeep says it ups fuel economy by 5%. The Trailhawk trim has been dropped.
True, proven off-road prowess; luxurious interior; powerful engine lineup with new diesel availability; high-performance SRT variant
Special features for 2014
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has proven itself the premiere luxury SUV for 20 years. The latest Grand Cherokee builds on that tradition by offering civilized highway driving as well as the equipment to make a credible show off-road. The base Laredo 4x2 starts at just under $29,000 and comes very well-equipped. And the top-of-the-line SRT's all-wheel-drive on-road performance rivals that of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, but for half the price.
Significantly redesigned for 2014, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a mid-size SUV with off-road capabilities and a newly available 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine (240 hp). Engines consist of a 3.6-liter V6 (290 hp/260 lb-ft of torque), 5.7-liter V8 (360 hp/390 lb-ft of torque), and the SRT8 trim that is equipped with a 6.4-liter V8 (470 hp/465 lb-ft of torque). A new 8-speed automatic transmission can be paired to RWD, or 4WD drivetrains, to yield fuel mileage within an EPA estimated range of 12 mpg city to 23 mpg highway, depending on engine selection. Features include 20-inch wheels, bi-xenon HID headlamps, rear seat entertainment system, 19-speaker sound system, QuadraLift air suspension, leather interior, navigation, heated steering-wheel, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Safety is comprised of advanced airbags, anti-lock braking (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, trailer sway control, and tire pressure monitoring (TPMS). The Grand Cherokee is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
