The Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV has been completely redesigned for 2012. Although the new version has about the same overall size and proportions as last year's model, it has revamped powertrains, including all-new V6 engines, that are smoother, strong and more efficient. The new M-Class also comes with expanded active and passive safety features, all-new electromechanical steering; a new active damping system, a more finely detailed interior and improved isolation of noise and vibration. Also joining the lineup later in the model year is an all-new version of the ML63 AMG high-performance version.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is one of the most refined, yet safest and most comfortable luxury SUVs available. It's also surprisingly fuel-efficient--especially in ML350 BlueTEC diesel guise. The M-Class's completely redesigned interior has much-improved materials and detailing compared to the previous version, and it's now one of the most lavish cabins in its class. An off-road package, which will allow several different modes for different types of trail driving (or snow), will be available either late in the model year or next year will allow a ground clearance of up to 11.2 inches and a water-fording depth of 23.6 inches.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a five passenger luxury SUV available in a diesel variant. The base ML350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Upgrading to the BlueTec trim level grants the driver a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine that produces 240 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. Towing capacity is a respectable 7,200 lbs. Fuel mileage falls within an EPA estimated range of 17 mpg city to 27 mpg highway, depending on engine selection. Features include 20-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, hands-free phone capabilities, fold-flat seating, bi-xenon headlights, iPod media interface, and a rear seat entertainment system.
