2012 model year changes
Following a full redesign in 2011, the Grand Cherokee returns, adding a new SRT8 high-performance variation that sports a 6.4L 465-horsepower V8. The standard equipment list on the base Laredo was slimmed down a bit with a corresponding reduction in base price, but a "Laredo E" group can add much of that equipment back. The 70th anniversary models have been dropped for 2012.
True, proven off-road prowess; luxurious interior; powerful engine lineup; new high-performance SRT variant
Special features for 2012
The Grand Cherokee has proven itself the premiere luxury SUV for 20 years. The newest Grand Cherokee builds on that tradition by offering civilized highway driving as well as the equipment to make a credible show off-road. The base Laredo 2-wheel drive starts at just under $27,000 and comes very well-equipped. The top-of-the-line SRT8's all-wheel-drive on-road performance rivals that of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, but for half the price.
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a mid-size SUV with off-road capabilities and a towing capacity in excess of 7,000 lbs. Engine-transmission combinations consist of a 3.6-liter V6 (290 hp/260 lb-ft of torque) with a 5-speed automatic, 5.7-liter V8 (360 hp/390 lb-ft of torque) with a 6-speed automatic, and the SRT8 trim 6.4-liter V8 (470 hp/465 lb-ft of torque) paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. RWD and 4WD drivetrains yield fuel mileage within an EPA estimated range of 12 mpg city to 23 mpg highway, depending on engine selection. Features include 20-inch wheels, bi-xenon HID headlamps, rear seat entertainment system, 19-speaker sound system, steering-wheel mounted controls, leather interior, navigation, heated steering-wheel, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Safety is comprised of advanced airbags, anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and trailer sway control. The Grand Cherokee is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
