2012 model year changes

Following a complete redesign in 2011, Audi's flagship A8 large luxury sedan returns for 2012 mostly unchanged. A new 4.0L V8 engine replaces last year's 4.2L V8, with a single turbocharger making 400 hp, while the 6.3L V12 engine gets a boost of power as well--up to 500 hp over last year's 450.

Special features for 2012

The long-wheelbase version of the A8, the A8L, is now slightly longer than the BMW 7-Series, Lexus LS or Mercedes-Benz S-Class, bringing an exceptionally roomy interior. The A8 still manages to feel more nimble and responsive than would ever be expected for such a large vehicle. A number of other tech features, such as the industry-first full LED headlamps and the next-generation touchpad MMI interface inside, are market standouts.
A full-size four door luxury sedan, the 2012 Audi A8 is available in a NWB, L, and W12 trim levels. The standard NWB trim is powered by a 4.2-liter V8 engine that produces 372 hp and 328 lb-ft of torque, for a 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD the standard A8 achieves an EPA estimated 18 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. Upgrading to the L trim level grants the driver rear window shades, Audi parking system plus, rear seat comfort package, and power door close assist. For increased performance Audi offers a W12 trim level that equips the A8 with a W12 engine, producing 500 hp/463-lb of torque for a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds. Fuel mileage for the W12 falls within an EPA estimated range of 14 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. Upgraded features include 20-inch wheels, 22-way front comfort seats, touch technology navigation, and rear seat entertainment system. Safety is comprised of night vision assistant with pedestrian detection, Sideguard® head curtain airbags, electronic stability control, rear-passenger thorax side airbags, and Audi lane assist. The A8 is backed by a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.
