Several mechanical and design upgrades affect the 2009 Jeep model line-up. A new 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine is available on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander for 2009. The revised version of the HEMI powerplant, the engine is both more powerful and delivers better fuel economy. Producing 357 horsepower, the 2009 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 adds an MDS (Multi-displacement System) that allows the engine to run as a four-cylinder when the vehicle isn't under great stress. Minor interior changes have been undertaken with every Jeep model. A mild instrument panel remodeling is present on most products while the 2009 Jeep Patriot and Compass enjoy a more thorough remodel. For an extra level of terrain control, Hill Start Assist is added to all Jeep Wrangler for 2009.
