The 2009 Dodge Durango lineup gets a new gas/electric Hybrid model. The 2009 Durango HEMI Hybrid uses its 2-mode system that integrates a hybrid-electric drive, which reduces fuel consumption by almost 54 percent, with the brute power of a 4.7L V8. The 2009 will also see more entertainment add-ons and more power for the Hemi V8.

Special features for 2009

Bigger than a small SUV, smaller than a full-size, the Dodge Durango is just right for every need--from those who will never leave asphalt, to those who will never see it. The aggressive styling is distinctly Dodge, and in addition to the standard 3.7L V6 and hefty 5.7L Hemi V8, the new flex-fuel 4.7L V8 makes great sense as a blend of both fuel economy and power, and at 303 horsepower, offers nearly 70 more horsepower than the engine it replaces. The Durango's near-9,000-pound towing capacity with the Hemi is best in the class, and acres of interior room make it a smart choice for hauling people and cargo.
The big news is the addition of a two-mode 2009 Dodge Durango hybrid mated to a Hemi V8 providing 25% fuel economy improvement. The regular Hemi models are updated in 2009 with a revised 5.7L V8 with 356 hp and multi-displacement system. The Adventurer trim level has been discontinued, while the SXT trim level is renamed SE. The 2009 Dodge Durango standard engine on the 2WD Durango SE and SLT models is a 3.7L V6 that produces 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque with a standard 4-speed automatic. Optional on the SE 2WD--and standard on the SE 4WD, SLT 4WD and Limited--is a 4.7L V8 generating 230 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque, while attached to a 5-speed auto. Although called 4WD, the 4.7 actually has a full-time AWD system with no manual. Fuel economy with the V6 engine and 2WD is 14 mpg city/20 mpg hwy and 16 mpg combined, while the 4WD models with the 4.7L V8 are rated at 13 city/18 hwy and 15 combined. Standard on the 7-passenger Dodge Durango SUV are antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, trailer sway control and side curtain airbags.
