2009 model year changes

Following its introduction in 2008, the Dodge Avenger receives few changes for 2009. For starters, the lineup shrinks, as the base SE has been dropped, leaving only the SXT and R/T models. The availability of all-wheel drive has also been dropped. Extra noise-reducing materials have been added to the Avenger, and SXT and R/T models now feature anti-lock brakes, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and fog lamps as standard equipment. The R/T also adds 18-inch chrome wheels and various interior convenience items to its list of standards.

Special features for 2009

The 2009 Dodge Avenger is a smart, boldly styled mid-size competitor to the Chevy Malibu, Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry. The Avenger has expanded standard-feature content, including side air bags, anti-lock brakes, an alarm and the innovative Chill Zone cooler system. Several options, such as the MyGig audio/navigation system and heated/cooled cup holder, also differentiate it feature-wise from other mid-size sedans.
The 2009 Dodge Avenger is a 4-door, 5-passenger sedan with a sporty appearance. For 2009, the Dodge Avenger has reduced-interior-noise levels, a cabin air-filter system and sunglass holders throughout all trims. A leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, a rear spoiler, fog lamps and ABS are now standard on the SXT and R/T trims. The R/T now has 18-inch chrome wheels standard. The base model Dodge Avenger has a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine under the hood. This generates 173 hp and is controlled with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The R/T trim benefits from the larger 3.5L V6 and 6-speed automatic transmission; however, the 4-cylinder gets 21 miles to the gallon around town and 30 miles to the gallon out on the highway compared to 16 mpg city/27 mpg hwy for the V6. The 2009 Dodge Avenger standard features include a AM/FM stereo with CD/MP3 player, Sirius satellite radio, Multistage Front airbags, side curtain airbags, keyless entry and an electro-luminescent instrument cluster, which makes reading the gauges at night much easier. The Dodge Avenger is an affordable option in the American sedan market.
