The 2008 model year presents some significant shifts for BMW's smaller car intentions in the United States. Firstly, BMW welcomes potential first-time premium buyers to the brand in North America with a new entry-level vehicle. The 2008 BMW 1 Series is offered as a compact coupe or convertible. Secondly, BMW's prized 3 Series line receives from massive changes for 2008. A new 300-horsepower 335xi model brings a new level of all-wheel drive performance to the model while the convertible 3 Series is now equipped with a retractable hardtop. For the first time, the BMW M3 is powered by an eight-cylinder engine. The 2008 iteration of the M3 is propelled by a 414-horsepower engine and features other traits such as a carbon fiber roof and cross-drilled brakes. Besides the 1 Series and 3 Series, BMW's 2008 model year line-up is shaken-up by the appearance of the X6 Sport Activity Coupe. The 2008 BMW line-up boasts a mild styling refresh for the 5 Series as well as the 6 Series.
