Receiving major changes last year with the inclusion of the all-new Montego and Mariner, Mercury continues a transition to an updated image for the brand in 2006. Promoted as an all-new mid-sized sedan, the Mercury Milan is an upscale challenger to the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima and Honda Accord. The 2006 Milan is available with a four-cylinder and six-cylinder powerplant with all-wheel drive as an option. The Montego and Milan both function as a replacement to the now-departed Mercury Sable concluding a 19-year production run. Higher trimmed models of the 2006 Mercury Montego can now be ordered with an available DVD entertainment unit and navigation system. Mercury's first-ever hybrid powertrain debuts on the Mariner. The 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid touts fuel economy of up to 33 miles per gallon in city driving. For 2006, the Mercury Mountaineer sport utility vehicle has undergone an update maintaining much of the previous generation model's exterior aesthetics but adds 2.7 inches in length through the introduction of revised bumpers. Eight-cylinder versions of the 2006 Mountaineer will function with an all-new six-speed automatic transmission. Interior and exterior styling has been retouched with the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis.
