Lexus enters 2006 with an aggressive new pair of sedans to attract premium car buyers. The all-new IS and GS models share modern, sophisticated styling language. New six-cylinder engines are found with the 2006 Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 sedan. All-wheel drive is also introduced as an option on the 2006 IS 250 and GS 300. A new addition to Lexus and for the luxury crossover category, the gasoline/electric hybrid RX 400h demonstrates a reality where premium motoring does not have to be a gas guzzler. A six-cylinder engine combined with three electric motors propels the Lexus RX 400h with a competent total output of 268 horsepower. The 2006 Lexus SC 430 receives improved cruising smoothness with the addition of a new six-speed automatic gearbox. Advanced Lexus Pre-Collision System is available on the 2007 IS and GS models with the capacity of automatically applying brakes when a likely crash is detected.
