Gone for the 2006 model year is the front-wheel drive Dodge Intrepid replaced by a more muscular sedan. The 2006 Dodge Charger comes standard with V-6 power but also possesses the option of a HEMI V-8 engine producing up to 350 horsepower. The inclusion of an eight-cylinder on the Charger is the first sedan from Dodge to have such an engine since the 1989 Diplomat. Several high-performance sport sedan version of the Dodge Charger including a 425-horsepower SRT-8 version provides a loud introduction for the new sedan. The Charger's wagon companion, the Magnum, also receives the option of the SRT-8 model. Fans of the closed-cockpit Dodge Viper can rejoice in 2006 with the arrival of the all-new SRT-10 Coupe powered by a slightly more powerful version of the SRT-10 Roadster's V-10 engine. A heavily revised Dodge Ram pickup truck adopts design traits of the recently restyled Dakota and adds a spacious Mega Cab variant. 2006 is the last year to purchase the Ram SRT-10 high-performance truck powered by a Viper-derived 8.3-liter V-10 engine. The Dodge Stratus is only available as a sedan for 2006 with the discontinuation of the coupe after 2005.
