The 2003 model year brings two significant introductions to Mitsubishi's United States product line. For 2003, Mitsubishi listened to American motorists craving their high-performance, rally car-based version of the Lancer subcompact car known as the Evolution. Coming after seven generations of the car was built in Japan, the all-wheel drive, 271-horsepower 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII is treated to a considerably high level of performance refinement compared to the economy-oriented base Lancer. On conventional Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, the choice of a sunroof is new for 2003. Besides the excitement created over the welcoming of the Evolution VIII, Mitsubishi also makes a splashy entrance in the car-like compact crossover utility market with the Outlander. Sharing its frame with the subcompact Lancer, the 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and delivers optional all-wheel drive. A new 215-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 engine and exterior modifications including a changed grille are a few upgrades made to 2003 Mitsubishi Montero. Front and rear styling of the Mitsubishi Eclipse has been modified for the 2003 model year.
