The 2001 model year Volvo lineup delivers a growing assortment of vehicles mixing modern design with the brand's unique Swedish engineering. For 2001, the sedan lineup is enhanced by a sporty looking, mid-sized S60's arrival. Offered in three performance ranges topped by a turbocharged, 247-horsepower T5, the 2001 Volvo S60 incorporated an increase in cabin space compared to its predecessor S70 and boasted standard safety equipment such as Volvo's WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System). The arrival of the S60 has resulted in the discontinuation of the S70 sedan. Previously related to the S70, the C70 coupe and convertible remain available while the V70 wagon is redesigned for 2001. The new Volvo V70 is longer, wider and taller than its previous iteration aiding interior capacity of the wagon. The flagship Volvo S80 sedan upgraded all models to standard leather seating and now offers a new T6 Executive version. Geared towards chauffeured VIPs, the S80 T6 Executive features two inches more rear leg room, two-passenger heated rear seating and a video screen with DVD player. Debuting just last year, a number of improvements strengthen the S40 and V40's comfort, safety and performance for 2001.
